FREMONT, Calif. -- Curexo Technology Corporation made history on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 when its next-generation ROBODOC® Surgical System assisted Dr. William Bargar as he performed the first commercial hip replacement surgery on Warren Roberts of Davis, CA . Mr. Roberts had his left hip replacement using this robotic device in 1995 as a part of an FDA study. This recent surgery performed at Sutter General in Sacramento was for Mr. Robert's right hip.
 Although Roberts first hip replacement was performed 15 years ago, his left hip is still working well, demonstrating the longevity of the surgical procedure and implant. "It was like being born again," said 68-year-old Roberts of the first ROBODOC® surgery. "The years of pain fell away. From day one of the surgery I was feeling great." Mr. Roberts waited months to have his other hip done on ROBODOC.
When using the ROBODOC® Surgical System, the surgeon first plans the surgery on a computer workstation, called ORTHODOC®, using 3D data from a CT scan of the patient. The 510(k) application is used when there exist similar, previously-cleared technologies in the marketplace. This submission follows the company's recently cleared 510(k) for Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) and will offer surgeons an accurate, precise, and reproducible surgical technique to prepare the joint during a knee replacement procedure. The process will allow surgeons to preoperatively plan their surgery in a 3-D virtual space and then execute the surgery exactly as planned in the operating theatre.

Mittelstadt to its senior management team as President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Mittelstadt began research in surgical robotics in 1986 as a visiting research scientist at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center and is responsible for much of the early development of CT guided robotic systems for joint replacement surgery. In 1990, with initial investment from IBM, Mr. Mittelstadt co-founded Integrated Surgical Systems (ISS) to develop a surgical robot system to assist with hip and knee replacement surgery. In 2007, ISS with the approval of its shareholders transferred all of its assets to CUREXO Technology Corporation.
While at ISS, Mr. Mittelstadt served as Director of Surgical Applications, where he led the development and refinement of both the early pin based hip application, as well as the DigiMatch™ ROBODOC Surgical System for Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA), which received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance in August, 2008.
After leaving ISS in June 2002, Mr. Mittelstadt took a position at Consensus Orthopedics (formerly Hayes Medical Inc.), where he was Director of Marketing. Mr. Mittelstadt was part of a "turn around" management team that was integral in transforming the company. SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 3, 2008 – ROBODOC, a Curexo Technology Company, and IBM announced today that they have entered into a major patent Cross licensing agreement. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either party.
In addition to its current surgical robotics patents, this agreement gives ROBODOC, access to more than 40,000 patents in IBM'S Global Portfolio and particularly, IBM's surgical robotics patents.
